Pope Francis has spoken of the qualities he expects to be found
in bishops he appoints. We realize that no one, not even the Pope,
can have detailed knowledge of the circumstances and needs of over
3,000 dioceses worldwide. Therefore, we Catholics of Greensburg, PA,
USA, sensing the openness of Our Holy Father Francis, propose some
specific qualities we need in the next Bishop of Greensburg.
We invite Catholics living in Southwestern Pennsylvania, USA, to endorse
the attached Petition to Pope Francis and make a brief comment if they so

Ambrosians of Greensburg Mission Statement
In light of Pope Francis’ emphasis on transparency and collegiality, The Ambrosians of Greensburg
were formed to act as a conduit for messages and concerns of local Catholics particularly as they pertain
to assigning a new bishop for the diocese of Greensburg.
St. Ambrose was one of the four original doctors of the Church. He as unanimously elected to the office
of bishop of Milan by the clergy and laity assembled in 374 A.D. He immediately adopted an ascetic lifestyle,
apportioned his money to the poor, and donated all his land. ( More: See the selection from All Saints)
Your Holiness, Pope Francis:
We need our next Bishop for the Diocese of Greensburg, PA, to be someone who
- Consults and dialogues with both laity and clergy
- Is collaborative in his decision-making
- Can live simply so that others can simply live as a living example of solidarity with the poor
- Encourages people to seek healthy, sustainable jobs that respect and care for God’s earth
- Preaches the Church’s full social gospel and encourages his priests and deacons to do likewise.
- Helps us loosen the bonds of clericalism that affects our Church establishment
We pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you and that we have the patience to accommodate ourselves to whomever you appoint.
